A Girls' Home and Women's Social Service Center
This grant to BGR partner the Bodhicitta Foundation, the second year of a three-year project, is helping to sponsor the education and training of 30 teenage girls at risk of having their education cut short and of being forced into early marriage due to poverty. The girls come from some of the poorest regions in India. They receive instruction in nursing, social work, and law as well as job training so they can become agents of change and help others when they return to their villages. Through the grant, the young women will receive scholarships to fund school fees, clothes, shelter, books, and all their other expenses. Bodhicitta runs a social services center offering legal help to women facing divorce, domestic violence, and land disputes and providing job training to poor women in sewing, computers, English, beauty therapies, and other subjects. Additionally, Bodhicitta’s food program provides 6,000 meals per year for undernourished slum children. Second year of a three-year project.
